Steampunk 2011, October 23rd At DUMBO Loft

We do not simply aim to look at what lies on the surface of the wonder that scientific arts have delivered, but to delve deeper, into the possibilities to be found in both the uncanny and the academy!

There are those who claim to speak with spirits through machines; others yet who claim to have photographed the immaterial! Is it so hard to believe? We have just unlocked the power of the x-ray and the radio wave. There are those who say that invisibility, teleportation, astral projection and psychic enhancements are lurking but around the corner, awaiting the next intrepid scientist who will uncover them!

This year we take inspiration from such works as Tim Powers’s Infernal Contraptions and Christopher Priest’s The Prestige. In addition to our customary raft of delights, we will also explore the place where the known and the unknown meet with magic performances, lectures on science and the occult in the Victorian age, readings from premiere steampunk authors, and more! And returning this year will be our tantalizing collection of unique vendors, and our awe-inspiring fashion show from some of the most creative and innovative figures in alternative design!

On October 23 at the DUMBO LOFT in Brooklyn, It will be “a feast for the eyes” (New York Magazine’s fashion blog – 2010), a puzzlement of perception, a grand sally-ho! into realms of obscurity and possibility! We invite you to come with us to experience MAGIA ET MYSTERIUM!
